Theatr Powys is a dynamic, exciting and innovative touring theatre company producing six or seven projects per eighteen months.


> Theatre in Education

Theatr Powys produces Theatre in Education of excellence which, as a free service, is accessible to students of all ages in Powys schools.

>  Community Touring

Theatr Powys tours high quality, original theatre to community audiences in Powys and throughout Wales.

> Mid Powys Youth Theatre

Theatr Powys continues to support, develop and consolidate the well known and prestigious Mid Powys Youth Theatre.

> Youth Arts

Theatr Powys is committed to developing its youth arts provision, part of which was the establishment of the Llandrindod Drama Workshops in 2007 for young people aged 9 to 11.

> The Drama Centre

In 2006 the Company moved back into its home at the former National School after extensive refurbishment and rebuilding. As well as the rehearsal, production and administrative base for all the Company’s work and home to Mid Powys Theatre, the Drama Centre is now available as a venue for conferences, exhibitions and community events.


Theatr Powys is one of a network of eight Theatre in Education and community companies supported by the Arts Council of Wales. The Company holds an enviable reputation for the quality of its work, particularly in recent years for the impact of its TIE practice and its work with young people.

The Company is part of Powys County Council’s Recreation, Culture and Countryside Services and has been in existence since it was founded as the Brecknockshire Theatre Company in 1972.

Theatr Powys is a member of the Theatrical Management Association, the National Association for the Teaching of Drama, the Wales Association for the Performing Arts as well as being affiliated to various umbrella organisations pertinent to the Company’s work.

The Company is revenue funded by Powys County Council and the Arts Council of Wales.
